Soft, round, and puffed-up rotis β just like homemade ones should be! This easy step-by-step method helps you make perfect rotis every time.
πΎ Ingredients:
2 cups whole wheat flour (atta)
Around ΒΎ cup water (as needed)
1 tablespoon oil or ghee (optional, for softness)
Extra dry flour (for rolling)
𧀠Step 1: Prepare the Dough
1. Place the flour in a large bowl. 2. Gradually pour in water while mixing β do not add all at once. 3. Knead the dough for 8β10 minutes until it becomes soft and smooth. It should not be sticky or too firm. 4. If you like, add a bit of oil or ghee while kneading to make the rotis extra soft. 5. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes. This resting time helps the dough become elastic and easy to roll. πͺ Step 2: Roll the Rotis
1. Divide the dough into equal portions and roll them into small balls. 2. Lightly coat each ball with dry flour. 3. Using a rolling pin, roll each ball into a thin, even circle. Rotate the dough as you roll to keep the shape round and uniform. 4. Keep the rolled rotis covered to prevent them from drying out.
π₯ Step 3: Cook the Rotis
1. Heat a tawa (flat griddle) on medium-high heat until it's hot. 2. Place one rolled roti on the tawa. After 30β40 seconds, bubbles will appear β flip it. 3. Cook the second side for about 30 seconds until golden spots appear. 4. Flip it again and gently press the edges with a spatula or clean cloth β this helps it puff up. 5. Cook for a few more seconds and remove. Repeat for the rest.
Perfect Rotis:
β Make sure the dough is soft and well-kneaded. β Let the dough rest β itβs important! β Use a hot tawa for the best puff. β Flip at the right time to avoid dryness. β Fresh flour gives the best taste and texture.
