Grand scale, spectacle movie warfare and battle scenes?
A large army vs. Army battle scene has been a movie staple since golden age Hollywood and the days of the epic movie. Your Ten Commandments and the thousands of extras they used to depict the Exodus.
It takes creativety to make a battle look chaotic and insane in a cramped studio enviorment.
Recently I watched Captain Blood (1935) , it's an Errol Flynn classic and one of the best pirate movies I'v seen. If you've seen an Errol Flynn swashbuckler movie you know that the battle scenes are fucking nuts. Everybody starts fighting and throwing shit in a way that you wouldn't expect from 90 year old movie stunts.
Anyway there's a ten minute pirate battle between two ships in the ending of this movie that is just chaos, people are climbing and fighting and shooting and stabbing and firing cannons and it's just insane. There's smoke, blood, sword glitter etc.
