So I currently play around a 4.0 skill level, and feel like I’ve plateaued, so I’ve recently begun taking lessons from a 5.0.
One of the areas that the coach critiqued on for improvement were my drops. While my drops have gotten fairly consistent, they are plain with not much topspin. The coach wanted me to use more wrist when hitting the drop shot to shape the ball more, instead of just brushing with the elbow/shoulder.
Everything I’ve been told so far has always told me to just move the bigger muscles, always use less or no wrist. My question is if that advice is just for beginners / intermediate players, and as you advance, you can incorporate more wrists? I worked hard to get my drops to be consistent, and am worried about building bad habits and ruining that. The drops I hit now DO have some topspin, but nowhere near as much as when I incorporate more wrist. But the trade off for now is inconsistency, obviously. #sport source
