I saw on twitter that the 11th anniversary of the live action Cinderella movie was recently, which reminded me of how much I loved that movie and how it improved upon the animated 1950 version (story wise). So, as one does, I thought it would be a great musical. Disney’s never done a Cinderella musical based on their version of the story, but Rodgers and Hammerstein has, so I thought it would be cool if I combined the music from the R&H version (Broadway) and the Disney 1950 & 2015 version. So, enjoy my long and semi-detailed description of how this would work.
Note: The only real unfinished part is a song for Lady Tremaine. She doesn’t have one in the original, and I didn’t use the “Falling In Love with Love” song from the 1997 movie, for I kept her as a wicked stepmother like the Disney versions. Anastasia and Drizella, however, are closer to their R&H counterparts as comic relief. I also tried to incorporate Anastasia’s storyline from Cinderella II but the Broadway version already had something like that in Jean-Michael so I just used that. Enjoy!
# Act I
Ella, the kindhearted daughter of a wealthy merchant, lives happily with her parents. Ella's mother becomes ill; on her deathbed, she instructs Ella to always have courage and be kind. Years later, Ella's father marries the widowed Lady Tremaime, who has two daughters of her own, Drisella and Anastasia. After overhearing that Ella's father still misses his first wife, Lady Tremaine becomes bitterly jealous. Ella's father dies of illness during a business trip, and Lady Tremaine dismisses all the household servants to save money, forcing their duties upon Ella instead. Seeing her face covered in cinders after sleeping by the fireplace, Ella's stepfamily mockingly dubs her "Cinderella". (**Prologue: A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes**)
Distraught by her stepfamily's mistreatment of her, Ella goes for a walk in the woods. (**In My Own Little Corner**) There, she comes across a stag hunt, and meets Kit, a prince, who introduces himself as a palace apprentice. They take a liking to each other, but part without him learning her name. As Ella goes back to the chateau, she runs into Anastasia and Jean-Michael, having a hidden romance.
Back at the palace, Kit learns that his father plans to throw a royal ball, so Kit may choose a princess to marry. Kit persuades the king to invite all the eligible maidens in the land, secretly hoping Ella will come. (**The Sweetest Sounds**)
Ella, also wanting to see Kit again, refashions her mother's old dress and attempts to join her stepfamily at the ball. (**The Dress My Mother Wore**)
However, her stepmother rips her dress and they leave her behind. (**placeholder Lady Tremaine song**)
Ella runs into the garden in tears, (**In My Own Little Corner (Reprise)**) and her fairy godmother appears. (**Impossible**) She magically transforms a pumpkin into a carriage, mice into horses, lizards into footmen, and a goose into a coachman. She then bestows Ella an exquisite blue ball gown and glass slippers. (**Bibbidi Boppity Boo**) After casting a final spell to prevent Ella's stepfamily from recognizing her, the Fairy Godmother warns her the magic will end at the last stroke of midnight. (**It’s Possible**)
When Ella arrives at the ball, Kit does not immediately recognize her, but gives her the first dance. (**Cinderella’s Waltz**) Although surprised to learn Kit is the prince, Ella bonds with him, and they fall deeper in love. The two sneak out of the ballroom to the castle gardens, where Kit realizes the mystery maiden as Ella. (T**en Minutes Ago**) However, the clock chimes close to midnight, and she flees the palace, losing one of her glass slippers. (**Ten Minutes Ago (Reprise)**)
# Act II
The Prince is determined to find the mysterious woman who spoke so honestly about the kingdom. The women of the court, led by stepsister Drisella, bemoan that the Prince had not chosen any of them to be his love. (**Stepsister's Lament**)
The Prince and his guards search high and low; almost catching the fleeing Ella. (**The Pursuit**)
Once again dressed in rags, Ella returns to the chateau and reflects on her wonderful Prince. (**So This Is Love**)
Lady Tremaine, Anastasia and Drisella return in state of dejection. Ella relates what she "imagines" the night at the palace must have been like with her stepsisters. (**A Lovely Night**) The three have a moment of shared emotion, for once. Left alone with Ella, Anastasia realizes that Ella was the Prince's partner at the ball. Anastasia reveals that she is an ally, and also in love with Jean-Michel, and Ella tells her that she saw her in the forest with him. They vow to keep their shared secrets (**A Lovely Night (Reprise)**)
Kit continues his search for Ella, while Ella yearns for him. (**Loneliness of Evening**)
Kit issues a proclamation professing his love for "the mysterious princess who wore glass slippers to the ball" and orders the Grand Duke and the Captain of the Guard to find the mystery princess by trying the intact slipper on every woman in the kingdom. (**The Search**)
Ella attempts to retrieve the slipper to prove her identity, but Lady Tremaine finds it first. She attempts to blackmail Ella into making her the head of the royal household, but Ella refuses. Lady Tremaine breaks the slipper and locks Ella in the attic. (**placeholder Lady Tremaine song (reprise)**)
At Ella's house, the shoe fits neither stepsister, and the company prepares to depart, until they hear Ella singing in the attic. (**A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes (Reprise)**) Kit, who has secretly accompanied the group, commands the Captain to investigate, forcing Lady Tremaine to release Ella. Ella successfully tries on the slipper and, as she leaves with Kit, forgives her stepmother. (**The Shoe Fits**)
Kit asks Ella to marry him, and she happily accepts. Ella and Kit wed and become the kingdom’s most beloved monarchs, ruling with the same courage and kindness that Ella had promised her mother. (**Finale: There’s Music In You**) #video #movies source
