Netflix's The Last House is not a serious film

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt32268156/?ref_=nv_srb_trend_title_0

The premise;

> A family of four is suddenly sealed inside their house with no way out and must work together to survive against both their dwindling resources and the mysterious, looming threat that is keeping them trapped.

Wow, the idea of the ocean fauna invading Earth as a result of climate change is very promising, so what does Netflix do? Hire Louis Leterrier, who doesn't even know half the time what he's doing, what he has to focus on. He's completely brain-dead with the camera and the editing must have been done by a third-party who make reels. That's the only explanation for the butchering in these shots, where there's editing-within-editing, that's where the real horror is. Let's hire Moura and Lee just to make them look like total idiots, make them say asinine lines. Create a lot of contrived scenarios to make it all feel like Jumanji, the recent ones.

And none of this is new, this is all part of the 'Bird Box-Leave the World Behind-A Quiet Place pipeline that seeks to destroy what fiction is all about. But even those films didn't have a uniform, smooth surface like this has. Moura and his family are most perfect ones to ever live, there's barely any inter-personal conflict or anything brewing under the surface that can be brought up in an apocalyptic scenario like this. Which first and foremost, invokes the COVID-19 lockdowns. But there's no claustrophobia of getting trapped in one's house or any struggle, there's no struggle in this film. No one is suffering from anything. Remember in I am Legend where Will Smith closes the shutters when it's about to turn dark, remember that sense of unease? None of it is here even when the mechanisms are the exactly the same.

Then you have the mawkish voice-overs that treat you like a child with social science lessons. The environmentalist messaging can and should be this blunt, but not in a way that trivialises anything happening in the real world. All the swirling camera movements are a sign of defeat. A film that should be erased from all the servers in the world because of it's a waste of space and bandwidth. Useless movie.
