Living in the Philippines, we're no strangers to strong typhoons and heavy rains. As a mom, my first thought whenever a storm gets stronger is always the safety of my children. I make sure we have food, drinking water, charged phones, flashlights, and important documents kept in a safe, waterproof place. I believe it's better to prepare early than panic when things get worse.
My three safety tips are to prepare an emergency bag with basic supplies, stay updated on weather announcements, and avoid going outside or crossing flooded roads during a strong storm.
For me, the hardest part of a typhoon is not knowing what might happen next. That's why I want my family to be ready, even if we hope we never have to use our emergency supplies. One thing people often overlook is having a family emergency plan. We may have food and flashlights ready, but we also need to know what to do and where to go if we need to evacuate. We can't control the weather, but we can do our best to protect the people we love. Better prepared than sorry!
