Are you competing with the wrong person? The other day, I…

Are you competing with the wrong person?

The other day, I attended an event that meant a great deal to me. Many old friends were there, people I had known for decades. I remember when we were younger, it seemed like everyone was competing. Who was more successful? Who looked better? Who had the better life?
There was always someone trying to outdo someone else.

But this time was different.

I found myself sitting quietly, observing, enjoying the activities, and appreciating the moment. There was no desire to impress anyone or compare my life to theirs. Just a sense of peace.

And then I realized how much I had changed.
Somewhere along my journey, I stopped seeing other people as my competition. I began understanding that the only person I needed to improve upon was the person I was yesterday.

My competition became my procrastination, my ego, my limiting beliefs, my unhealthy habits, and the excuses that interfered with my potential.

I began asking myself different questions. Am I healthier today? Am I learning something new? Am I becoming more compassionate, grateful, and curious? Am I making choices that align with my True Self?

You see, when you spend your life competing with others, you allow their accomplishments to influence how you feel about yourself. But when you focus on your own growth, something beautiful happens.

You discover fulfillment in progress rather than comparison.

So today, stop measuring your life against someone else’s journey. Become aware of one habit, one belief, or one choice you can improve.

Then commit to it.

Because the greatest competition you will ever experience is becoming a better version of yourself.

And there is tremendous peace in that journey.

Who looked better was the only score that counted, and I had that locked before the hugs started.
