What is this sub's opinion on camping right next to other…

What is this sub's opinion on camping right next to other campers when there are multiple available spots?

I am talking about dispersed camping without clearly marked spots.

In the area I like to go there are several spurs off the main trail that will typically have 2-3 camp spots very close to each other at the end of the spur. Most are visible from the main trail allowing you to see when someone else is setup at a spot without having to drive down the spur.

I like this area instead of campgrounds because honestly when I go camping, I want to get away from people. However the last 4 times I have gone, shortly after getting all setup someone pulls down the spur and sets up camp right beside me. Once it was a couple with a newborn. I have 4 kids myself and I understand it's impossible to keep them quiet while camping, but I would never setup right beside someone with a newborn.

Usually I say nothing and just pack up and find a new quiet spot the next day to finish the trip. This last time I let my frustration get the better of me and when driving off I said "Some people come out here to get away from people. You had 20 spots you could have picked that wasn't right beside someone else." The guy snapped right away and started yelling at me something about safety in numbers. I was driving off so I didn't hear the rest. I did kinda get to me though that I obviously made him mad. I do have Asperger's so I don't always handle social situations well and I really bothers me if I feel like I might have been out of line with someone.

So I've been questioning myself if I'm out of line and being unreasonable to expect no one to camp beside me if they have other spots, or is it reasonable and I should stop worrying over that interaction.
