I’m an old Formula One fan, I got involved in sim-racing with the old “Grand Prix Legends” game.
I’ve felt that the best racing films were “Grand Prix” with James Garner and “Les Mans” with Steve McQueen. There have been a couple of decent ones since… “Ford vs. Ferrari” was not bad.
So I put off watching this one for some time. But I was very pleasantly surprised. The fact that they included essentially the entire Formula One roster in the film didn’t hurt, and it was produced by Louis Hamilton.
The racing sequences are top-notch… I found myself gripping the arms of my easy chair at several points.
The plot is pretty familiar…. Jaded old veteran steering the cocky rookie towards a burgeoning career… But well-done.
