How should I improve in pickleball during open play?
I recently got into pickleball a month ago and got hooked on it in. I love the sport and I want to take it more “seriously” (getting a DUPR rating, competing in tournaments, etc). I come from a badminton background so I don’t have the best form when it comes to strokes required at the baseline like serves and drives. I’ve been watching tutorials on YouTube to improve and want to apply what I learned in open play.
However, during open play, I feel that I can’t apply what I learn from the videos I watch. When I play with others and want to try something i watched, my partners always sigh and feel frustrated as the balls would hit the net or go out frequently when it comes to me or when I’m serving. I apologize for my mistakes, but I feel bad because I feel that I am ruining their time in open play. So I go back to just getting the ball over the net and we move forward. I really wanna practice my form and different techniques without interfering without people’s open play time. I feel that my progress is slowing down and it frustrates me a little bit. What should I do? Should I continue practicing my strokes and techniques at open play? #sport source
