Help with cabinetry

I could use some help to double check that I’m going to do the correct thing here before committing.

I have metal kitchen cabinets that have a wooden panel that was affixed to the side of the cabinet with some sort of construction adhesive. It’s more hard and not at all rubbery or flexible. The wooden panel fell off the metal cabinet the other day.

Removal: I will either scrape off the old construction adhesive or paint it with a small bit of acetone or mineral spirits if I need to loosen it up and then scrape off the excess. I could also sand it if that works well.

Reattachment: I’ll use some sort of adhesive to put them back together, but I’m thinking of what might be the best to use? 3m 5200 caulk is what I’m thinking might be my best bet since there is no way to nail or screw the panel into the metal wall. (Maybe rivets through both, but I’d rather have something that doesn’t show.) I’d clamp them together for a few days until the caulk cures.

My question is, does this seem like the logical way to tackle this project? Would anyone have tips for me for a better way to remove the old adhesive or a better suggestion to reattach the wood panel to the metal wall?

Thanks for any help or suggestions!
