Finally here! 🤩 my silver coin has arrived.
Ok, I bought it for the occasion 🤣but also because I’m a Santa Maria Novella Calcio Storico fan!🙌 It’s gonna cost me a pizza but totally worth it.
So, this is an Italian 5 euro commemorative coin dedicated to Calcio Storico Fiorentino and specifically to Santa Maria Novella, my team.🤩
These coins are minted to celebrate cultural heritage, history and iconic traditions.

Calcio Storico Fiorentino is a spectacular mix of football, rugby & wrestling that transforms the beautiful Piazza Santa Croce into a Renaissance arena every June. A centuries old tradition that hasn’t lost its charm: history, neighborhood pride and pure physical power! (the friend’s son I bought the coin from plays for Santa Maria Novella team! 😍)
The matches take place in June during the celebrations for San Giovanni, the city’s patron saint and it’s a major event! tourists from all over the world come to watch.
Here are the four teams:
Santa Maria Novella — red — sun
Santa Croce — blue — cross
Santo Spirito — white — dove
San Giovanni — green — dragon
Last year the Reds of Santa Maria Novella won. Yuppie!🙌💯
Let’s see who takes the victory this year… I’m ready to cheer for the Reds!

Oh nice! I figured you would go for some of the old lire, i have some of those (L.500 from the 50's and L. 10 from 1929) and they are beautiful coins (.800 silver). To be honest i've always avoided the euro silver coins, the ones i saw so far have been not so pretty and i like older historic silver coins more :D And if im honest, the "fifa world cup germany" side of the coin is not appealing but the other side dedicated to Calcio Storico Fiorentino looks actually quite pretty! Ive heard about that "medieval football" and seen some videos of it in the past, makes me laugh when i see modern footballers crying and acting theatrically when another player slightly touches them, meanwhile these guys basically fight for the ball. Great entry for the challenge and dont let go of that coin, i figure that even by the end of this year it will be worth much more. Thanks!

Yes, I have some old lira but I’d have to go down to the basement to look for them and I just didn’t have the energy…😁 I actually loved the idea of Calcio Storico, so I wanted to take part with this commemorative coin, mostly because of the history behind it. And yes, I agree the FIFA championship on one side and the beautiful Santa Maria Novella on the other… it just feels completely out of place.
