The Hunt is a beautifully written film.

I loved this movie when I first watched it. I wasn't even 18 at the time. I understood the intent behind the film, but I never really appreciated the beauty of its writing. I'm only in my early 20s, so I don't claim to have grown any wiser, but I understood the nuances so much better this time on a rewatch.

Klara's character struck me the most. I remember being confused about Klara's actions when I first watched the movie. But it makes so much sense now. She told a lie she didn't know the magnitude of. Even when she tries to brush it off by saying he did not do it in the scene with the counselor, they still don't believe her and push her into believing her own lie. The tragedy is that she's no longer just convincing the adults, but the adults begin convincing her. She's a victim of the accusation too. It's such a fantastically written story. You also feel sad for Klara along with Lucas because everyone around them starts treating them so differently.

My heart sank during the scene when she came to Lucas' house to take Fanny on a walk. She's still a little girl who misses someone she loves. Lucas understands that he simply can't comfort her anymore.

One more scene that stayed with me this time was the one towards the end where Lucas picks Klara up so that she can avoid the lines. I was anxious and worried that someone might see them because the film had led me to believe that even an act of kindness could put someone's life in jeopardy. The accusation had poisoned even the most innocent gesture.

The Hunt is a film that has stayed with me ever since I first watched it, and it was one of the first films that made me fall in love with this artform.
