23 years ago, White Sox players tried to purposely fail steroid tests

In March of 2003, 16 members of the team were planning on skipping their steroids tests. Not because they were using, but as a way to register an automatic fail. Doing so would help reach a threshold of failed tests that would trigger mandatory permanent testing for the league.

The MLPA dissuaded them from going ahead with their plan. Here's an old ESPN article about it: https://www.espn.com/mlb/news/2003/0311/1521844.html
