Since 1994 the AL East has had 6 instances of 4th place team finishing at least .500 and 5 times the 5th team finished with 75+ wins
AL East:
4th place team has finished at least .500 in 5 of the last 18 seasons, with this season possibly winding up 6/19.
For reference, since the current format started in 1994 the AL Central has 1 instance of this happening, AL West has 0 instances of this happening, NL East has had 3 instances, NL East had this happen 2 times, NL West had this happen 2 times.
Similarly, the Os are currently projected for 78 wins as the 5th seed. Since 2015 the AL East would have had 6 instances of the 5th seed getting at least 75 wins!
