1. Personal Stance on Aging Without Offspring In my opinion, having children is considered a strong support in old age, especially a son, because in our society it is commonly believed that sons become the main support of parents. That is why having offspring is often seen as important. 2. Define “Aging Well” For me, aging well means having obedient and caring children who respect and support their parents. In society, aging well is often linked with having successful children who bring respect and name in the community. Because of this thinking, sons are usually given more importance. 3. Common Sayings/Beliefs People often say things like: “Why don’t you have children yet after so many years of marriage?” or “Is the issue from you or your husband?” 4. Societal Assumptions A common assumption is that if a couple does not have children, people think they do not desire them or there is some hidden issue or incapability. A recent example I personally witnessed is that my sister-in-law’s husband passed away, and since they had no children, people said that if there were children, they would have been the heirs. This shows how deeply society connects children with security and inheritance. Attachment Section (Required) One Word: Security Symbol: A locked house door with a key Explanation: I chose the word Security because in our society, children—especially sons—are often seen as emotional and financial security for parents. The symbol of a locked house with a key represents protection, safety, and future assurance. It reflects how people believe children act as a “key” to stability in old age, especially in matters like care, inheritance, and support. .
