Hello everyone! I am hoping to take a MTB trip this summer (mid-late July) to Marquette and Copper Harbor. I plan on dispersed camping and already have a few places in mind for Marquette. However I am struggling to find anywhere to stay in Copper Harbor because I'm not sure I can get there
I have a stock Mazda CX-50, an AWD crossover with some ground clearance, nothing fancy. I understand that you can set up camp pretty much anywhere in a State forest and there are plenty of spaces to do that but I'm unsure of the ones (if any) I would actually be able to drive to given my car. I see that Schlatter Lake is a good place to stay, High Rock Bay, Rocket Range, etc. But everyone online has MASSIVE differing opinions on the conditions of roads like Mandan and High Rock, some people say you could drive a Camry down them, others insist that you need a lifted 4x4 Jeep or SxS.
So can someone who's stayed at any of these places or dispersed camped at Copper Harbor lend some insight on how tough these roads really are, or tell me places to go where cars similar to mine have gone? I've ridden dirt bikes and ATV's my whole life so I'm decent at reading terrain and understand mechanical sympathy and can take a hint on if it's time to turn back. #camping #activity source
