Looking to turn old laundry chute into a motorized…

Looking to turn old laundry chute into a motorized dumbbell and need advice on design

My grandmother lives in an older house that's 2 stories and has alot of stairs, and as she's getting up in age she struggles more with getting heavy objects up from her garage to the main floor. She can do it, but I can tell it takes a toll on her and I want to see if I can turn her old unused laundry chute into a tool to assist her. I haven't seen this project attempted elsewhere without a complete rip out and rebuild of the chute, and while I do have some ideas for what hardware may be needed, I'm curious if any other DIY projects exist that could at least give me some pointers

The chute is lined with aluminum sheet metal and about 2 feet by 2 feet, from the second story down to the basement. My main questions are what control mechanism would be economical and most logical for a lift. I can rig up the hardware just fine but the control system is the largest hurdle for me in this project. Im also concerned about safety, as I dont want to build a fire hazard in a laundry chute for obvious reasons

The parts of the project Iv broken this down into thus far are the dolly/carrier, the motor and controller, and the carpentry work to extend the chute down an additional 8 feet from the current termination point for easy access. Im confident I can do the carpentry and carrier work myself, but unsure of the best way to control the system and of potential safety implications. The project is currently in the planning phase, I want to have answers to my questions before I start working on fabrication

If anyone knows of similar projects done elsewhere or where else I could look for inspiration, I would highly appreciate it. If its a terrible idea in concept, I also want to know so I can pivot my focus to other solutions. All criticism and advice is appreciated
