Does the Core Instant tent hold heat in mildly cold weather? Should I buy the Coleman instead?
I downsized my tent after 10 years and debated windows vs. mesh top. I wanted smaller and easier. I went with a Coleman Skydome which is full mesh for the top half. First trip out, the temperature dropped lower than I like and, even with the rainfly, we froze. Lower than I like = less than 50ºF. When we camped in the summer, the tent was very hot if you had the rainfly on, but had no privacy to change clothes without it.
So, back to windows. The Coleman Instant Cabin tent looks like it has zippered vents at the top, but it is hard to tell, and the reviews on rain resistance with the small rainfly are very mixed. The Core looks like a good alternative, but it has a mesh roof. It also doesn't have a bathtub bottom. Does some of the heat stay in with the rainfly on and the windows zipped?
Also, because of kids schedules, we only get to camp 1-2 weekends a year. We take what we can get and go if the temperature is between 50º & 95ºF
