Oh man that is just the start. I have so many it is mind blowing. My dad has been collecting and categorizing for years. When he visits this year he is going to bring me some more on a hard drive. I will have to share some more when I go through them again.

Go through your family albums and identify as much as possible for posterity. I'm sure your children will take an interest when they are older.

I plan on doing that as time goes on. A good amount of these photos are to far back to know anything about them. I only know which side of my family it is from because of the title. I am going to ask my dad when I call and then fill in the details in the notes of each picture as he tells me. I should get a more detailed collection when I visit my parents again.

My sister was able to compile a family tree going back three generations before our paternal grandparents.
In Chinese culture, the paternal grandparents choose the grandchildren's names. Given that my siblings and I were born in the UK, our parents gave us English first names and our grandparents chose Chinese middle names, each of which shares a common written character which denotes the generation. That's how my sister, with our father's help, compiled the family tree without reference to birth, death and marriage records located in China.

this is so damn cool!!!! My wife and I are starting to compile, archive and make copies of our old photos with the goal in making a cool wall of photos dedicated to our ancestors.
If I were to guess the time period, I'd say late 1910's to early 1920's - just based on the clothing. Teddy Roosevelt may have been president :)

I would never have what I have without my Dad. He contacted all of our relatives and had them send photos to him and then he would scan them and put them on a hard drive. He also did a bunch of ancestor DNA things. One day I will have to show you the things my dad has made through the information and pictures he has gotten.

That would be cool to make a collage out of old family photos. We have a couple photos like these in our living room and I have a couple above my computer of my Grandpa. Good luck on finding more photos and creating your wall. It is time consuming scanning all of those. I still have boxes of photos I need to scan. The phone makes it easier but still time consuming lol. I bet it would look awesome though and be worth it all in the end.

Right! When he first showed me all of these my jaw dropped. It is crazy to be able to look so far in the past and see what past generations lived like and looked like. Wills post has me on a picture exploration.
