As the 2025 season started the Rockies were quickly found to be a force to be reckoned with. Teams which were otherwise strong found themselves demolished by this inexplicable superteam. For the first half of the season, their performance was absolutely unreal; they don't suffer their tenth loss until June. At that point some were wondering if they would have even thirty losses by the end of the season, though they ended up cooling off somewhat and their record fell to something marginally more believable. Nonetheless, the Rockies managed to smash through the single-season wins record with a 6 game win streak to end off the season. Only the Twins, Angels, Nationals, and Cardinals were able to win the season series against them, with the Marlins managing an even 3-3.
The AL unsurprisingly is less affected by this, but it still does shake up the posteason picture quite a bit compared to how it was in our own (much worse, as I'm sure we can all agree) timeline. The Yankees are able to secure the division title and #1 seed, while it's the Blue Jays that have to host the Red Sox in the wild card. The Mariners are dropped to the same record as the Guardians but still secure the #2 seed thanks to winning the season series against them. The Astros had the misfortune of playing 3 more games against the Rockies compared to the rest of the AL, but they managed to achieve a comparatively decent 2-4 record against them. Thanks to this, they sneak into the #6 seed by 1 win, narrowly beating the Tigers who were swept in their own 3 game series against Colorado.
In the NL, the Rockies of course take the #1 overall seed by a massive margin. Every other playoff contender had their record weakened by the Rockies, particularly the Dodgers who were 2-11 against them and the Phillies who were swept in their 7 game season series; the Brewers faired the best against them at 2-4. The Brewers and Phillies remain the division winners, with each taking a seed one lower than they had in our timeline, while the Reds end up being pushed out of of the playoffs and in fact below the Cardinals who were the only team to achieve a win-loss diferrential better than 1 against Colorado. The poor Mets were humiliated even harder in this timeline, losing all 6 of their games against the Rockies and falling below the Marlins in the standings. Despite the dominance the Rockies had within their division, two other NL West teams still manage to make it to the postseason; the Padres were reportedly perfectly fine with finishing a game behind the Dodgers and avoiding the side of the playoff bracket featurimg the superteam that thoroughly trounced both of them in the regular season.
Rocktober is inevitable, now only one question remains: do the Rockies steamroll through the playoffs the same way they did the regular season, or do they pull a 2001 Mariners? Unfortunately my free trial to my alternate universe exploring service expired before I could find out so it's anyone's guess. #sport source S
