How did Howard predict Tony would need the new element to survive? Or am I just dumb lol

In Iorn man 2 Tony discovers the new element Howard discovered but couldn’t create cause of tech at the time. I’m wondering how he knew it would have needed in the future by his son. I have been just a little bit confused on this. Maybe I’m just dumb and not paying attention.
