What a night and what a day... I'll fast forward a bit: I took Andy to the hospital today. What happened?
He had severe stomach cramps all night long and neither of us slept—it didn't get any better, in fact it got worse. Then I drove him to the doctor in the morning, where he was given his first infusion of painkillers (which didn't seem to have any effect). They ruled out a heart attack and suspected that his gallbladder was the culprit.
So I grabbed my husband, put him back in the car, and drove him straight to the emergency room.
I'll spare you the details of the hospital's parking policy (man, I almost killed someone there...) ... and I didn't care that the road to the emergency room was blocked—I drove him right up to the door—he could barely walk. (Of course, I moved the car after he was inside.)
Then everything took forever—but yes, it was the gallbladder.
Andy had already had infusions two and three in the meantime, but the pain was still there. (I think they gave him really strong stuff...but well...it didn't work.)
And then they said they would keep him there and operate on him sometime tomorrow morning. They would remove his gallbladder.
I rushed home, remembered to drink some water and eat a little (it was already afternoon and I hadn't even had a sip of water yet) – then I packed a bag for Andy and drove back to the hospital.
Man, it was weird driving home without him—the house feels so empty and quiet.
This is only the second time in two decades that we've spent the night apart. It feels really surreal and strange.
