YSK: Constantly switching between tasks can make simple work feel harder than it actually is

A lot of people think they are good at multitasking because they can quickly move between email, messages, documents, browser tabs and meetings but most of the time, you are not actually doing several things at once.

You are repeatedly switching your attention.

Every switch means your brain has to remember what you were doing, adjust to the new task and then rebuild context when you return.

That is why an hour spent jumping between five small tasks can sometimes feel more exhausting than an hour focused on one difficult task.

A simple way to reduce this is to group similar tasks together.

For example:

\-Check messages at specific times instead of every few minutes.

\-Finish one small piece of work before opening another tab.

\-Keep only the windows you actually need open.

Why YSK:

If you often reach the end of the day feeling busy but unsure what you accomplished, constant context switching may be part of the problem. Reducing unnecessary switches can make work feel calmer and help you finish more with the same amount of time.
