Road trip from Cincinnati, OH to Big Bend, TX
Hi all, looking to get some feedback on a road trip I am going to do this month. I'm taking some time away from work and this is kind of spur of the moment so for instance I know I won't be able to stay in the actual park of Big Bend, looking to stay at the campground right outside of it.
Here's a rough route so far:
Cincinnati, Ohio > Jonesboro, AR (stopping with family here) > Fort Worth, TX > Big Bend, TX > White Sands (saw there's still no camping so maybe just stop over for a couple hours) > Organ Mountains
I want to head back home via Kansas, and check out the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve and the Monument Rocks.
Planning on doing roughly two weeks, with biggest time spent around Big Bend.
Are there places around there I should add, especially in New Mexico? I'm looking to do day hikes and would even be open to doing a 2-4 overnight thru hike. For the day hikes I'm thinking around 6-10 miles, but can do multiple small ones as well.
For the driving portions, looking to find small campgrounds to stay the night and thinking I'll drive around 7 hours a day.
I did also see it was windy season around this area, so may have to get stakes specifically for sand?
