Replacing light sensor with smart relay?

I am fairly inexperienced with home automation but I wanted to get into it with some Halloween decorations. I bought this small sound chip that I can pre-record mp3 files on and wanted to play the sounds as someone approached my door. Problem is that the sound chip is triggered via a light sensor and I was wanting to replace it with a smart relay of sorts instead. The idea is that when my ring doorbell senses a person in front of the door, I trigger the relay to activate this sound chip and play the mp3. The sound chip itself is powered by a small battery. I currently use Alexa to trigger some smart plugs using the ring doorbell so that part I'm familiar with.

Am I able to just purchase a smart wifi relay (Shelly) and just cut the wires that lead into the light sensor and plug them into the relay instead? The relay would be powered externally by hooking it up into a power cord going into a simple wall outlet.

Would this work? Does anyone have a better idea of accomplishing what I'm trying to do?
