I'm building a covered patio from scratch (lean to style attached to house). Foot print 26ft wide x 15 ft long. In the process of digging out the area now and I'm wondering how to best do the footers.
My plan is to set 4in of crush and run gravel, compact it(about 6in wider and longer than pad footprint), and then pour 4in of 4000 psi concrete w fiber mesh (w #3 rebar 2ft on center).
My question about the footers is the order and execution of the footers. I'm planning on 3 footers. One in each corner away from the house and one in the center. My area has a 10in frost line. I plan on using sonotubes(w a 12in diameter and 24in depth) for the footers. Should I set the footers before setting the gravel? Should the 24in depth be measured from the top of the sod next to the area or from the ground that I have already dug up 8in? How would you recommend ensuring that the top of the footers is flush with the eventual pad? Does it even need to be? Should I install the mounting hardware for the posts in the footers before they cure? #diy source
