ELI5: How do houses built on stumps carry the weight?
I just cannot fathom how the 50 stumps under my house holds everything up. Like, how can I fill my bathtub with water + 80kg of human, and it doesn’t fall through the floor. Or the 100kg fridge + all the food inside?
If, hypothetically, I filled my house with bowling balls, would the floorboards break first or would the house start sinking into the ground?
