Best dispersed camping in Virginia near Richmond
I'd really like to do some free dispersed or primitive camping near Shenandoah or somewhere else that's cool near(ish) to the Richmond area at one of the national forests or something like that next week and I'm having a hard time finding a goldilocks area when researching online.
I will have my wife and 2 kids ranging from ages 6-10 as well as my 2 dogs. We are pretty new to living in the Richmond area and previously lived in and around the front range of Colorado for 15 years and are itching to get back in the woods and do it up like we used to in the Rockies. The more remote and less people the better! Ideally we are looking for somewhere free but I also know that things are a little different out east than they are when camping in the west so if spending money is a must I will happily do it.
