Overnight kayak camping trip! Need advice!
My best friend finally purchased himself a kayak and we went out fishing for a few hours yesterday as a maiden voyage. We are experienced campers but we have never done a trip where we float down river with our gear. Id like advice on how you guys would pack your kayak for a short overnight trip.
For context! The river is a slow moving Midwest river with zero rapids and a slow/steady current. I already have the length of river mapped out at 22 miles through the same section of public land him and I hung on. The trip from launch to landing will be about 9 hours but the plan is to kayak and fish for about 3 hours, find a spot to set up camp (obviously we have our dispersed camp permits) and then take our time to finish the rest of the trip the following morning. Mine is a 12ft and his a 10ft kayak. Both are sit in.
I am primarily looking for advice on how to pack the gear properly into the kayaks themselves so that things are balanced. But any other advice would be awesome as well. Thanks in advance.
