The Penguin Vs Tony Soprano
So, I started watching HBO's The Penguin recently, and it is 100% phenomenal for a DC based TV show. It's the best work that they have done so far. It's exactly what I wanted the character to be, set in an environment in which I think that the character thrives. The last time that I saw an actor give this good a performance, it was Heath Ledger playing The Joker.
With this kind of performance, DC Comics won't have to worry about that other comic book business who keep popping up every now and again with so so scripts and performances.
Then it occurred to me, HBO have a long standing tradition of hosting "Gangster" based TV Shows. After all, they did air "The Soprano's" on their network.
I started wondering, which one of the two mob bosses, The Penguin or Tony Soprano would come off best in a straight, all out gang war, straight to the top of the tree, Tony Soprano or The Penguin?
I think that The Penguin is doing things in that TV show that they wanted to do in The Soprano's, but either didn't, or couldn't. I've already seen more bullets flying around in the first two episodes of the Penguin, than I did for the entire first few seasons of The Soprano's.
If you were in the underworld, which one of the two would you be loyal to? Me, I don't trust either of them, but I trust Tony Soprano more than The Penguin. I know that The Penguin is going to gut me at some point, I just don't know when. Then again, the same can be said for Tony.
If it came down to a gang war, I think The Penguin would have Tony beat. The Penguin has more guys, he has more guns, I think that the Penguin would have more money what with his arms deals, and I think that he's better connected both politically and in the underworld. He's also more devious, more streetwise, since he specialises in trying to set people against people, like he is currently doing in The Penguin TV Show, setting two families against each other, manipulating both rival families into destroying each other, so that he move in with his crew and scavenge through whatever's left.
Man to man though, if it came down to it, just those two, I think Soprano would beat The Penguin.
The only thing you can say about either of them, that they both have in common is that they are both mob bosses.
I think that I would prefer to work for Tony though. I would feel more comfortable for some reason?
