K-2S0 works so well as a character because he perfectly combines the key aspects of R2, 3PO, and Chopper - sass, pessimism, and homicide.
Also, Alan Tudyk, who elevates absolutely every role he's in. K-2S0 has been such an iconic droid for the more recent Star Wars projects, and it's easy to see why. Sad we won't see more of him!
