Let me continue my morning post with a little interesting fact about the Martello Tower Museum, which you can spot in the video I shared earlier at the entrance of La Preneuse Beach! 🌊🏛️

Built by the British between 1832 and 1835, it once served as a coastal defense structure designed to protect Mauritius from potential naval attacks. With its thick stone walls, elevated entrance, and cannon platform, it was basically the island’s original “no entry zone” for unwanted visitors. 😄⚓

Today, it has been beautifully restored and turned into a museum, where visitors can explore Mauritius’ colonial history, military defenses, and the daily life of the soldiers who once stood watch over the bay. The cannon still sits proudly on top, overlooking the lagoon and Black River Bay like a silent guardian of the coast. 🌅

Fun fact: The original entrance wasn’t even at ground level, soldiers had to climb a ladder to get inside. Imagine doing “ladder access only” security in the 1800s, no shortcuts allowed! 😂

If you’re filming at La Preneuse, this tower is more than just a background, it’s one of the best-preserved Martello Towers in the world and a true historical landmark of Mauritius’ west coast 📸✨
