🍂💜 While many countries are enjoying autumn, with its beautiful, colorful leaves, here in Mauritius, we have our own little November magic, the gorgeous Novembrier trees! 🌳💜🌸
Unlike countries with four distinct seasons, Mauritius has only two main seasons, summer and winter. 🌞🌧️ As summer approaches, our beautiful Novembrier trees burst into bloom, decorating the island with gorgeous purple blossoms. 🌳💜
The tree gets its name from its flowering season, which often coincides with November, making it a special symbol of this time of year in Mauritius.
I may not get to enjoy the golden autumn leaves, but I absolutely love seeing Mauritius dressed in purple! 🥰💜 It's one of those little things that makes living here so special and reminds me how beautiful nature is in every corner of the world.
Different seasons, different colors, but the same beautiful gift from nature. 🌍💚
Have you ever admired the breathtaking beauty of Coin de Mire? 😍 With its dramatic rocky cliffs rising from the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, this iconic islet is one of the jewels of northern Mauritius. 💎🌊
🐦 Did you know? Coin de Mire, also known as Gunner’s Quoin, is a protected nature reserve and a haven for seabirds. Visitors can admire it from the sea, but landing on the island is generally prohibited to protect its fragile ecosystem. 🐚💚
A beautiful reminder that Mauritius is blessed with extraordinary natural treasures worth protecting! 🌿💙
🌅 Good morning, friends! ❤️ Hope you're all doing great!
I have been following the news all night with a heavy heart. I want to share with you what is happening in Mauritius.
The unrest began amid growing frustration over water shortages in several areas. Imagine having all the necessary plumbing and fittings in your home, yet still having no water coming from the taps for days. Water is a basic necessity, and people are struggling to understand how they can continue with their daily lives without it.
But the situation became even more heartbreaking following the shooting of Élodie Thomas , a 27-year-old young mother, who was travelling home from work in a van when she was struck by a bullet reportedly fired by a police sergeant on Friday night, 9 October. The van driver asked the police officer for permission to continue along the road to drop the passengers off at their homes. For no apparent reason, the officer allegedly pointed his gun at the driver’s temple and threatened him, telling him to leave if he didn’t want to get shot.
The driver then drove off, but the officer reportedly fired at the back of the van without any apparent justification. Tragically, Élodie was struck by the bullet. 💔She is in critical condition, fighting for her life. The officer has been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
These two issues have fueled anger and frustration, and the situation has escalated, with burning tyres, blocked roads and attacks on police facilities being reported in different areas.
It is deeply painful to see our peaceful island going through such turmoil. People need access to water, and citizens deserve justice, accountability and the right to feel safe. At the same time, violence and destruction will only bring further suffering.
My heart goes out to Élodie and her family, whom I personally know. 💔🙏 I sincerely pray for her recovery and for peace to return to Mauritius.🕊️❤️
