Is success a requirement?

You’re feeling stuck, and I get it. You have goals—things you want to accomplish—but instead of feeling excited, you feel pressure, maybe even fear. That fear makes everything harder. Why? Because somewhere along the way, you stopped seeing your goals as wants and started treating them like needs.

Needs are simple: food, water, air, shelter. Everything else? That’s a want. But society pushes this idea that success, status, and achievement are necessary for happiness. It’s an illusion, and when you buy into it, you put yourself under unnecessary pressure. You tighten up. You feel like you have to succeed or something terrible will happen. That fear creates friction—it limits you, blinds you to opportunities, and makes every step forward feel like an uphill battle.

Here’s the shift: place your goals back in the want category. You don’t need them to survive—you want them to grow. And that’s a powerful difference. Wants don’t control you. They guide you. They give you direction. And when you’re not forcing things, you start seeing all the open doors around you instead of banging your head against the closed ones.

Success isn’t something to fear. It’s something to engage with as your True Self. Lay out the steps. Take action. Move with the opportunities that appear instead of forcing things that aren’t meant to be. And don’t wait for society’s approval—it’s not theirs to give. This is your path. Fear doesn’t belong on it. Keep moving.

What strengthens you?

If you want to rise to the next level—whether in business, sports, or life—you have to stop taking the easy road. Comfort is not your friend; it’s your enemy. When you do the same thing every day, following the same unproductive routine, eating the same unhealthy food, thinking the same catabolic thoughts, you aren’t growing. You’re settling. And when you settle, you weaken yourself.

The real key to success isn’t control—it’s influence. You don’t control how hard the game gets, but you do influence how you respond to it. You have to be willing to step into uncertainty, to test yourself, to adapt. That’s what will make you great.

Epictetus said that when life throws challenges at you, think of it like an athlete facing a tougher opponent. You don’t get stronger by avoiding the fight—you get stronger by stepping into the ring, taking the hits, and learning how to move forward. Growth happens through resistance. Iron sharpens iron.

Too many people wait for the perfect moment, the easy opportunity. But success doesn’t come to those who wait. It comes to those who push themselves past their limits, who embrace difficulty, who refuse to let comfort dictate their choices.

So ask yourself—are you ready to rise? Are you willing to face discomfort, to take the harder path? Because that’s where real success is built.

Is it all worth it?

I remember the first time I heard it:

Why do dogs risk getting bugs in their eyes just to stick their heads out of car windows?

It struck me as silly at first, but then the answer came—because the exhilaration of the ride is worth it.

That landed hard.

It wasn’t just about dogs. It was about life itself.

How often do we, as humans, do the opposite? We focus so much on the bugs—the pain, the losses, the disappointments—that we forget we’re in the middle of an incredible ride. We see life through a lens of what’s missing, what’s broken, what hurts. We dwell on the things we can’t control, convincing ourselves that if only we had more control, fewer “bugs,” we’d be happy. But that’s an illusion. The truth is, control was never the goal. The goal was always experience.

Every moment, even the painful ones, is part of something miraculous. Just existing, just breathing, just being—it’s an unspeakable gift. But when we live reactively, clinging to our suffering, we forget to enjoy the wind in our face. We forget that pain isn’t the enemy. It’s just contrast, a small price to pay for the joy of feeling alive.

Do dogs understand something we don’t. Maybe, maybe not. They lean into the experience fully, embracing the ride for what it is. Maybe it’s time we did the same. Not by erasing hardship, but by recognizing that every moment—bugs and all—is proof of how wonderful life truly is.
