The Himalayas is a 2015 South Korean movie that tells the true story of Um Hong-gil, a famous mountain climber. Um Hong-gil organizes a fresh squad to return and recover his younger teammate's body from the "Death Zone" of Mount Everest after he dies there. The movie tells an inspiring story of sacrifice, sadness, and camaraderie in alongside climbing. Even in the face of the most deadly mountain in the world, it reveals how far and wide extent people will travel to for those they care about.
The thing that I love in this movie is that it's about a man who puts together a team not to conquer a new peak, but to honor a friend. The struggle against the mountain, the brutal cold, and the unforgiving altitude all become a reflection of their emotional journey. It's a truly beautiful and heartbreaking story about what we're willing to do for the people we love.
