Rauzan-Ségla 2015 Margaux

Opened this after a crazy busy last few weeks to force myself back to the present. Impromptu dinner with the extended family and busted out to go with grilled pork chops, zucchini and summer squash, fingerling potatoes and a salad for food stuffs. This is a 2nd growth according to the 1855 classification and definitely high QPR for WA state, $65 paid in 2021 according to notes.Wish I had another bottle to see further development.

Sight:

Day bright, no gas, some sediment is present at the base of glass. Garnet core spreads to the damn edge. Slight upturn to garnet at the rim. Makes me think that this could go for a long time and still be well integrated. Dark, can't see more than about 1/4in in when held on edge. High extraction?

Nose:

More secondary and tertiary notes than fruit. It's 11 years old but from a well regarded producer so kind of surprised since, 2015 vintages sound like they have been praised for their freshness by others. Lots of leather, cigar, backroom poker kind of feels. Luxardo cherry, plum. over ripe peach, the kind that's red next to the pit, juicy AF and messy as hell.

Structure:

Sweetness- Bone Dry

Acid- 3/5 more like day old lemon juice.

Alcohol- 4/5

Tannin- 3/5 round, fine grained

Texture- Full bodied

Palatte:

Fruits confirmed, more preserved than fresh but unmistakable cherry. The peach note is more about the overall feeling rather than perceived taste. Lots of leather and fine grained tannins. More like pipe tobacco than cheap cigarettes. Think more like Romeo and Juliet than Acid. It's like someone smoked a jar of grandma's summer jam before setting it in a Dutch wooden shoe. There is a funk on this that is not unpleasant but more like what I get in Mediterranean coastal ageable reds.
