Parenting looks wildly different now than it did a few generations ago.
Traditional parenting usually means strict rules, clear roles and a lot of βdo as I sayββstyle discipline.
Modern parenting often leans toward talking things out, explaining reasons, focusing on feelings, and letting kids have more voice in decisions.
Neither style is automatically βrightβ or βwrongββa lot of parents mix both, and culture, family history, and personal values shape how people parent. If youβre a parent, planning to be one someday, or just grew up watching other parents, youβve probably noticed how phones, therapy culture, social media, and more information online have changed how people talk to kids, set rules, and handle emotions. Traditional parenting can feel safe and clear; modern parenting can feel more flexible and understanding. Some people miss the βold rules,β others are glad parenting is softer and more open.
This activity is just about sharing your POV: what you saw growing up, what you like or donβt like now, and how you picture your own parenting style, if you ever parent.
Weβre not judging any parentβs style. Letβs keep it kind and curiousβno tearing systems or people down.
TASK: Copy and answer.
1. Your childhood vibe
- Describe parenting at your home in at least 2 sentences ( remember: childhood)
2. What you like from βmodernβ and βtraditionalβ parenting
- Name 2 things you like about modern parenting and 2 things you like about traditional parenting. Explain.
3. Your ideal parenting style
- if you were a parent, what would your βgolden ruleβ or main goal be?
- if you absolutely donβt want kids, just say how youβd like all parents to treat kids in general.

Traditional parenting = basic ingredients ( like sugar or salt: rules, discipline, structure ). Modern parenting = extra ingredients ( like flavors: empathy, communication, mentalβhealth awareness ).

3. ALL deductions from rule-breakers will be split evenly among participants who followed every rule.
In cases where the deductions are significantly larger and the participants who followed the rules do not exceed half of the capped entries, a portion of the deduction will be allocated to standout entries. Meanwhile, those who complied with the rules will also receive their share.

As we wrap up, let's remember that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to parenting. Each perspective shared contributes to a richer understanding of the diverse experiences we all have. Whether you find value in the structure of traditional methods, the flexibility of modern approaches, or a blend of both, what matters most is the intention behind our choices.
I capped entries at 10, but I received only 7 submissions. Upon reviewing these entries, I found that none fully adhered to all the rules.
