After a tense courtroom showdown, Vail successfully convinces the jury that Aaron suffers from dissociative identity disorder leading to a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity. Believing he has saved a troubled young man, Vail visited Aaron in his cell to say goodbye. However, as they talk, Aaron casually drops a chilling revelation - there was never an alternate personality. The stuttering, timid Aaron was just an act and Roy the violent and cunning side was the real him all along.
A stunned Vail watches as Aaron, now completely calm and confident, smiles and thanks him for getting him off the hook.
