Big fan of Northern Rhône so pretty well versed with all the producers there but it was my first time trying Alain Voge.
As usual with Cornas it took forever to open despite a few hours in a decanter. Ended up aggressively oxygenate it to get something out of it.
Overall it’s a good wine. Pairs perfectly with ribeye, mushroom and beef jus reduction. Dark fruit salad on the nose with a very light hint of tobacco. Palate wise it matches perfectly with some nice minerality coming through as well. Very enjoyable to drink. But… when you know the Cornas from Clape and Allemand, it really lacks something. Allemand has even more complexity and structure and Clape is a bit more savage with more tobacco and leather notes which really makes it more unique.
Like a lot of northern Rhône wines, could definitely benefit from 8/10 years aging as well but already drinks really well.
