I tried Tondonia for the first time tonight, bottle of 2013. I understand that this is a "young" Tondonia (it's the current release I think) so maybe things change with time in the bottle. I decanted for about 2-3 hours. But I have to say: I don't really understand why this is such a famous wine.
The nose was interesting: forest floor, mushrooms, vanilla. But there was also a huge amount of oak, to the point that it seemed to overpower whatever fruit was there. On the palate, the only word that really comes to mind is astringent, with almost no length at all. It did not seem to have much flavour beyond acidity. Maybe a hint of truffle, but it was subtle.
I don't know. I don't really get it. Maybe it's not my thing.
