I watched this last week and somehow felt like I was watching a real nice Hollywood movie. Why not when it has an actor who looks like a mustached Kevin Kline and the character's wife looked similar to a local actress, the late Ms. Cherie Gil. And then of course there is indeed one actor who we've seen in several blockbuster films: Joaquim de Almeida. The story is good and the characters relatable despite the setting and time period. The lead child actress is quite charming too!
This is a period movie so I was loving every second of it. For example, the girls' costume. What if kids today wore such head covers as the little girls there did? Must be nice. Anyway the film doesn't have any of those flashy special effects at all despite there being quite fantastic elements to the real story. Not much CGI was done except when the solar phenomenon happened. Music is good too.
Overall I give the film a 7 out of 10 stars. It's not boring at all but not super amazing. I like it because it is entertaining despite being a religious movie. How about you, have you seen this movie yet?
