A bottle of Kirkland Brunello di Montalcino 2017 had been sitting in my refrigerator for months after opening. It was about half full and simply re-corked. I assumed it would be completely dead by now.
When I finally poured a glass, the color was still a fairly deep ruby/garnet. More surprising, the nose still had noticeable cherry fruit with no obvious vinegar or off aromas.
The palate was definitely flatter than a freshly opened bottle and had lost some energy, but it wasn't undrinkable. It still tasted like wine rather than oxidized vinegar.
I'm not claiming this is a recommended storage method, but I was genuinely surprised at how well it held up considering it had been open for several months.
Has anyone else had a red wine survive far longer than expected after opening? #food #drink source
