Are half bottles out of fashion with the drinking public, or is the market really just "that" small?
This is by no means scientific, but my own perception ever since I entered the Industry in 2001 has been that 375's are a dilatory stock item, akin to the chintzy name brands still gracing the menu at places with award-winning wine lists, because they obviously move enough product that it's worth it to stock them for the clientele who orders that sort of thing.
To be clear, I'm nto biased against the 375 as a concept--back pre-COVID before the Coravin was widespread for high-end BTG options, personal "nice lunch" wine was a nice little CNdP 375! But, as my "evidence", I feel like just about everywhere I go, half bottles make up say a half dozen options AT MOST, of ten times literally just a couple. Ditto for stores, to my eye.
So that's why I'm curious to hear the business answer: is the segment really so tiny, or my 25-year familiarity simply coinciding with an era in which the format is out of fashion? #food #drink source
