Validation for custom layout design: Months of tweaking typography & stroke guides paid off with a Top 50 ranking!
As an independent designer, it's easy to second-guess every pixel when building a 124-page instructional book from scratch.
I spent months manually balancing line heights, custom slant angles, and stroke progressions specifically for a teen-to-adult audience (trying to avoid the childish aesthetic that dominates the category).
Woke up today to see it hit #47 in Typography on Amazon! Seeing a design-first approach actually perform against mass-market workbooks is a huge relief. For anyone else building detailed layout projects right now—keep tweaking the details, it matters!

The X-Men have never been box office royalty. So why is Disney betting Avengers-level money on them?
Some of my favorite superhero films are X-Men films. But I've been looking at the numbers and I think there's a real question worth asking.
If you merge both franchises and adjust every film for inflation, the X-Men track record looks rough:
\- Deadpool & Wolverine — #6 the one bright spot
\- Deadpool — #15
\- Deadpool 2 — #21
\- X-Men: The Last Stand — #23
\- X2: X-Men United — #25
\- X-Men: Days of Future Past — #27
\- X-Men (2000) — #29
\- Logan — #30
\- X-Men Origins: Wolverine — #33
\- X-Men: First Class — #42
\- X-Men: Apocalypse — #44
\- The Wolverine — #47
This just followed by The Marvels at #48 and then X-Men: Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants being #49 and #50 respectively.
So basically: outside of the Deadpool trilogy, no X-Men film has ever cracked the top 20 against MCU competition. Not once. Even the well-liked ones like Logan and Days of Future Past land in the bottom half of the combined ranking.
The bar right now is an Avengers film. Doomsday and Secret Wars are carrying enormous expectations and enormous budgets. Dropping mutants into that equation (characters who need significant setup to matter emotionally) feels like a very high-risk bet, **from a purely business standpoint**, at exactly the wrong moment in the MCU's momentum cycle.
