Vaincre ou mourir (Vanquish or Die, 2023): Something I Never Knew
And so there was a war in France in late 18th century that persecuted Catholics and went after the monarchy. Well hey, what can we expect with Europe huh? The cradle of Catholicism being overturned by the henchmen of the devil in the guise of "enlightenment" or freedom from monarchies. What's new. Haha.
Perhaps this is the last movie I will watch regarding history and religion. People keep choosing to side with the evildoers anyway. In terms of story and entertainment value, For Greater Glory is far better than this one. Vanquish or Die is on the level of There Be Dragons . Not much story or theme to love or root for. But of course the costumes and entire production design is great.
If you haven't heard of the Vendee war then welcome to the club. Just watch the film and then learn about French Revolution history related to it elsewhere. I rate the movie a 5 out of 10 stars. Perhaps it's the language barrier despite the English subtitle but I was truly not entertained with this film at all. Probably because it just shows how disappointing humanity can be.
