Overboard is a 1987 romantic comedy film directed by Garry Marshall.
The film stars Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.
Joanna, a very pretty but insufferable and wealthy woman, hires Dean, a country carpenter, to build a wardrobe for their yacht. They immediately take a dislike to each other, and when Dean speaks his mind, Joanna throws him overboard, scattering all of her belongings. The next day, Joanna accidentally falls over the ship's railing and suffers amnesia.
Joanna Stayton is a spoiled, aristocratic wife who lives a life of luxury with her husband. While their yacht is being repaired in the fishing village of Elk Cove, Joanna hires a carpenter, Dean Proffitt, to remodel her wardrobe. When Dean works with oak instead of cedar, Joanna refuses the job and refuses to pay, and in a fit of rage, she pushes him into the water.
Soon after, Joanna falls off the yacht and emerges with amnesia. Grant, her husband, takes advantage of the situation and does not go back for her, but instead starts partying.
Dean, seeking revenge, takes Joanna and makes her believe that she is his wife and the mother of his four sons. At first, she despairs of the poor conditions and the unruly boys, but slowly learns to cope with housework and family life.
As Joanna gradually changes, she helps Dean become a more responsible father, and together they realize Dean's dream - a miniature golf course. Later, when her mother and husband find her, her memory returns, but she realizes how happy she was with Dean.
On the yacht, she realizes the emptiness of her former life and turns back to Elk Cove. Dean swims to her from the Coast Guard boat, and the two lovers are reunited. Joanna reveals that the property is actually hers, and Dean asks what she can give him that he doesn't already have - to which Joanna smiles and replies, "A little girl." 🥰
I've seen this movie at least 50 times in my life, and I never get tired of it, I simply love it.
