My pick this month is a Marvel series — DAREDEVIL (2015–2018).
Daredevil is a dark, gritty and brilliantly acted superhero series that takes the genre in a much more grounded direction. Charlie Cox is excellent as Matt Murdock, a well-mannered, principled blind lawyer who fights for justice in the courtroom by day and leads a far more brutal life as a masked vigilante by night. His extraordinary senses make up for his blindness, but it is the contrast between his calm, compassionate personality and the violence of his nightly crusade that makes the character so fascinating.
The main cast is superb, with Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, and Vincent D’Onofrio delivering a chilling performance as the formidable crime boss Wilson Fisk. The chemistry between the characters, the complex moral dilemmas and the raw, hard-hitting fight sequences make for compelling television. This isn't your typical colourful superhero adventure; it's a much darker exploration of justice, faith, morality and the thin line between hero and monster. Marvel at its grittiest, with outstanding performances and a genuinely captivating story.

Hello dear Tanglers,

👻 FILMS/SERIES ABOUT GHOSTS & HAUNTED PLACES
Actual ghosts, hauntings, haunted houses/hotels/buildings…
... A very appropriate theme with Halloween around the corner! 🎃

My pick this time is the unforgettable classic BEETLEJUICE (1988).
This is one of those films that feels completely impossible to replicate. A wonderfully strange mix of horror, comedy and fantasy, it follows the recently deceased Maitlands as they try to haunt their old home after the eccentric Deetz family moves in. Enter Betelgeuse , a chaotic “bio-exorcist” who turns everything upside down.
What makes the film so memorable is its sheer imagination. Tim Burton’s bizarre visual style, handmade effects, unforgettable characters and Danny Elfman’s beautiful score all create a world that feels genuinely original. Michael Keaton is simply fantastic as the manic Betelgeuse, while Winona Ryder’s Lydia provides the perfect contrast. And, of course, the Day-O dinner scene remains iconic.
The recent “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” (2024) was rather disappointing by comparison, at least in my opinion. Yes, … it has plenty of Burton-esque visuals, fun moments and Michael Keaton still clearly enjoying himself, but it feels much more crowded and manufactured. Too many characters and storylines compete for attention, and much of the weird magic of the original is replaced by nostalgia and recycled ideas.
After waiting for more than 30 years, I was hoping for something a little more inspired. Nevertheless, the original remains the wonderfully weird, unpredictable classic.
