Ever wondered if your pets were living secret double lives? CATS & DOGS (2001) confirms your suspicion! It’s a full-on spy action-comedy where dogs and cats are highly trained secret agents in an epic hidden war.
From elite dog spies with high-tech gadgets (dog bones that explode, jet packs, the works) to the most excellent villain – Mr Tinkles, the Persian cat – trying to conquer the world with an allergy machine. The concept is completely ridiculous… and absolutely brilliant. The action sequences are surprisingly well done, the slapstick humour is non-stop, and it’s packed with charm.
Jeff Goldblum brings his signature quirky energy as the human lead, while the voice cast is stacked: Tobey Maguire as the eager rookie beagle Lou, Alec Baldwin as the tough Butch, Laurence Fishburne as the smooth Agent 11, and Susan Sarandon rounding it out.
It’s silly, wholesome, and genuinely funny for both kids and adults. And, two decades later, it still holds up as the perfect feel-good family movie. Great for a lazy weekend watch with the kids (or by yourself when you need some nostalgia).
