For this week’s theme, I have chosen BLUE BEETLE (2023), as that is one of the films I have watched in the past couple of weeks. For once, I have a negative review...
I was really disappointed. I had great expectations. But the film’s lacklustre plot and uninspiring character development left me very unsatisfied. Blue Beetle falls short of its superhero potential…
The hero, Jaime Reyes, lacks the depth and charisma needed to make a compelling lead. The special effects, while attempting to bring the character’s powers to life, often feel overdone and fail to impress. The villain’s motives are vague and unconvincing.
Blue Beetle left me feeling ‘meh’. It just didn't quite hit the mark for a superhero flick. In fact, the comedian George Lopez who plays Jaime’s uncle Rudy was about the only decent thing about this entire movie.
My Man Godfrey is a 1936 American screwball comedy film directed by Gregory La Cava and starring William Powell and Carole Lombard, who had been briefly married years before appearing together in the film. The screenplay for My Man Godfrey was written by Morrie Ryskind, with uncredited contributions by La Cava, based on 1101 Park Avenue, a short novel by Eric S. Hatch. The story concerns a socialite who hires a derelict to be her family's butler, and then falls in love with him.
In 1999, the original version of My Man Godfrey was deemed "culturally significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. The film was remade in 1957 with June Allyson and David Niven in the starring roles.
I watched this movie as a child and only understood the comedy. I recommended it in another group on Tangled, recently, and ended up watching the film again [50 years later]. The message is clear - life can change in an instant, never take anything for granted, jettison any sense of entitlement and treat others well.
The Latest Movies/Series Watched I have watched was Dark. This is a show that aired on Netflix from 2017 thru 2020. I actually just finished this show last night. The first season is by far the best of the bunch, but the remaining 2 seasons are still entertaining and strong. The show is hard to really describe but if you are interested in time-travel and complex narratives, then this is right up your alley! Interesting side note, Dark was the very first German-language original series produced by Netflix.
and bringing the communities together. Also, I have not seen Blue Beetle yet but I am intrigued by it because it is a superhero I have never really heard of before.
The Librarians is a US adventure television series. The anti-terrorist agent Eve Baird, the universally educated Jacob "Jake" Stone, synesthete Cassandra Cillian and technology master and thief Ezekiel Jones are to guard the treasures of human history under the leadership of the librarian Flynn Carsen. They are supported by Jenkins, who equips them with all sorts of knowledge and useful things. During their adventures they will have to decipher secrets, secure magical artifacts and get to the bottom of conspiracies.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2023) So, the good thing about this movie, while it's not strictly necessary to watch the previous "Mission: Impossible" movies before watching "Mission: Impossible - Fallout," doing so can enhance your understanding of the characters, their relationships, and the overall backstory of the series.
LOKI Loki Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of the shocking season finale when Loki finds himself in a battle for the soul of the Time Variance Authority. Along with Mobius, Hunter B-15, and a team of new and returning characters, Loki navigates an ever-expanding and increasingly dangerous Multiverse in search of Sylvie, Judge Renslayer, Miss Minutes, and the truth of what it means to possess free will and glorious purpose. The series is interesting and contorted, I enjoyed it except for that stupid cartoon character who in my opinion could have been anything else but ok... episode 4 left us on a cliffhanger so we'll soon see what's up next..
Movie: Plane (2023) This is pure popcorn entertainment that delivers on nasty-minded action and heroic temperaments that won’t insult your brain cells when you opt to cheer on the unfolding physicality. In the white-knuckle action movie PLANE, pilot Brodie Torrance (Gerard Butler) saves his passengers from a lightning strike by making a risky landing on a war-torn island -- only to find that surviving the landing was just the beginning. When most of the passengers are taken hostage by dangerous rebels, the only person Torrance can count on for help is Louis Gaspare (Mike Colter), an accused murderer who was being transported by the FBI. In order to rescue the passengers, Torrance will need Gaspare's help, and will learn there's more to Gaspare than meets the eye.
The Foundation series is a science fiction book series written by American author Isaac Asimov. First published as a series of short stories and novellas in 1942–50, and subsequently in three collections in 1951–53, for nearly thirty years the series was a trilogy: Foundation; Foundation and Empire; and Second Foundation. It won the one-time Hugo Award for "Best All-Time Series" in 1966.[1][2] Asimov later added new volumes, with two sequels: Foundation's Edge and Foundation and Earth, and two prequels: Prelude to Foundation and Forward the Foundation.
The premise of the stories is that in the waning days of a future Galactic Empire, the mathematician Hari Seldon spends his life developing a theory of psychohistory, a new and effective mathematics of sociology. Using statistical laws of mass action, it can predict the future of large populations. Seldon foresees the imminent fall of the Empire, which encompasses the entire Milky Way, and a Dark Age lasting 30,000 years before a second empire arises. Although the momentum of the Empire's fall is too great to stop, Seldon devises a plan by which "the onrushing mass of events must be deflected just a little" to eventually limit this interregnum to just one thousand years.
Sisu is a 2022 historical action thriller film written and directed by Jalmari Helander. Set in Finnish Lapland during World War II, the film follows a former legendary Finnish commando and gold prospector who attempts to secure his gold and defend himself from a German death squad led by a brutal SS officer. The film stars Jorma Tommila, Aksel Hennie, Jack Doolan, Mimosa Willamo and Onni Tommila.
Originally, Helander was supposed to work on the science fiction comedy Jerry and Ms. Universe as his next project after Big Game, but the COVID-19 pandemic changed Helander's plan and he moved on to make Sisu. The film was shot in 2021 near the Nuorgam village in Utsjoki, Lapland with a budget of about €6 million ($6.5 million). According to Helander, the 1982 film First Blood and the real-life Finnish military sniper Simo Häyhä, who fought against the Red Army, served as inspirations for the film.
Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions acquired the film's worldwide distribution rights outside Nordic countries, and then decided to team with Lionsgate to release the film in North America. The film debuted at the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto International Film Festival on 9 September 2022. The film premiered in Finland on 27 January 2023 and was released in the United States on 28 April 2023, where it received positive reviews from critics.
