I went for Stanley Kubrick's A CLOCKWORK ORANGE – a cinematic masterpiece that continues to provoke and captivate audiences since its release in 1971 . Adapted from Anthony Burgess's controversial novel, this film is a surreal and dystopian exploration of human nature, free will, and the dark side of society.
Set in a bleak, dystopian future, the story follows Alex DeLarge (masterfully played by Malcolm McDowell), a charismatic but sadistic delinquent who leads a gang of droogs* through acts of extreme ultra-violence . When he’s arrested and subjected to a controversial rehabilitation experiment, we delve into profound questions about morality and the role of choice in human behaviour.
Kubrick’s direction is indeed nothing short of genius, combining stunning visuals with a haunting score, that includes classical music, placed next to scenes of brutality. McDowell’s performance is charismatic yet chilling, making him one of cinema’s most iconic antiheroes, in my opinion at least…
What makes this movie a timeless classic is its ability to both repulse and fascinate viewers. It challenges societal norms and forces us to confront uncomfortable truths about the human capacity for violence and the consequences of attempting to control it.

Underworld is a 2003 action horror film directed by Len Wiseman from a screenplay by Danny McBride, based on a story by Kevin Grevioux, Wiseman, and McBride. The film stars Kate Beckinsale, Scott Speedman, Michael Sheen, Shane Brolly, and Bill Nighy. The plot centers on the secret history of vampires and lycans (an abbreviated form of lycanthrope, which means werewolf). The main plot revolves around Selene (Beckinsale), a vampire Death Dealer hunting Lycans. She finds herself attracted to a human, Michael Corvin (Speedman), who is being targeted by the Lycans. Many children were allowed to see it, leading to charges that the MPAA ratings board had accommodated Warner by giving the film an R rating instead of the X rating to ensure the troubled production and its commercial success. Several cities attempted to ban it outright or prevent children from attending. At the end of its original theatrical run the film grossed $193 million, and has a lifetime gross of $441 million with subsequent re-releases.
The cultural conversation around the film helped it become the first horror film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, as well as nine others. Blatty won Best Adapted Screenplay, while the sound engineers took Best Sound. It has had several sequels and was the highest-grossing R-rated horror film (unadjusted for inflation) until It. Persona (1966 film)
Persona is a 1966 Swedish avant-garde psychological drama film written, directed, and produced by Ingmar Bergman and starring Bibi Andersson and Liv Ullmann. The story revolves around a young nurse named Alma (Andersson) and her patient, well-known stage actress Elisabet Vogler (Ullmann), who has suddenly stopped speaking. They move to a cottage, where Alma cares for Elisabet, confides in her, and begins having trouble distinguishing herself from her patient.
Characterized by elements of psychological horror, Persona has been the subject of much critical analysis, interpretation, and debate. The film's exploration of duality, insanity, and personal identity has been interpreted as reflecting the Jungian theory of persona and dealing with issues related to filmmaking, vampirism, homosexuality, motherhood, abortion, and other subjects. The experimental style of its prologue, storytelling, and end has also been noted. The enigmatic film has been called the Mount Everest of cinematic analysis; according to film historian Peter Cowie, "Everything one says about Persona may be contradicted; the opposite will also be true".
Bergman wrote Persona with Ullmann and Andersson in mind for the lead roles and the idea of exploring their identities, and shot the film in Stockholm and Fårö in 1965. In production, the filmmakers experimented with effects, using smoke and a mirror to frame one scene and combining the lead characters' faces in post-production for one shot. Andersson defended a sexually explicit monologue in the screenplay and rewrote portions of it.
When first released, Persona was edited because of its controversial subject matter. It received positive reviews at its initial release with Swedish press outlets coining the word Person(a)kult to describe its enthusiastic admirers.
